Azithromycin Tablets IP is used to treat bacterial infections of the tonsils, ear, nose, throat, sinus, skin, soft tissues, and lungs (pneumonia). This medicine is composed of Azithromycin, which belongs to a class of drugs known as macrolide antibiotics. It functions by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins. They are required by the bacteria to carry out vital functions. Hence, the growth of the bacteria stops, and the further spread of bacteria prevents.

Though Azithromycin Tablets IP treats bacterial infections effectively, it will not work for flu, common cold, and viral infections. Avoid using it for the above conditions as the unnecessary use of antibiotics may decrease their effectiveness.   3. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medication, including prescription, nonprescription or herbal before commencing treatment with this medicine.
  4. Take Azithromycin Tablets IP 1 hour before the food and 2 hours after the food or as prescribed by the healthcare provider. Avoid taking antacids 2 hours before or after taking Azithromycin.
  5. Do not skip any doses of this medicine and take it for the prescribed period even if you start feeling better. However, if you forget to take any dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s time for the next, do not double the dosage to catch up.

Stop taking this medicine if you develop swelling of the face, tongue, or throat or breathing difficulties, and inform your doctor about the same. Further, take the above-listed precautions to ensure the proper use of this medication.
